Gel Presentation

Each gel contains:
Clindamycin Phosphate 1%w/w
Nicotinamide 4%w/w

It is a topical formulation used for the treatment of acne vulgaris. Clindamycin belongs to the class of antibiotics known as lincosamides. The term Acne vulgaris refers to the more common form of acne, consisting of non-inflammatory and mild inflammatory lesions. The more severe form of acne is characterized by the presence of nodules. Nicotinamide provides potent anti-inflammatory activity without the risk of inducing bacterial resistance.

Uses

Acne vulgaris

Mechanism of action

Clindamycin Phosphate is a semi-synthetic lincosamide antibiotic. Clindamycin inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to 23S RNA of the 50S subunit of the bacterial ribosome. It impedes both the assembly of the ribosome and the translation process. Clindamycin impairs peptide chain initiation and may stimulate dissociation of peptidyl-tRNA from bacterial ribosomes.

Nicotinamide also known as niacinamide or nicotinic acid amide, is the water-soluble, active form of vitamin B3. It works by
  • a cellular energy precursor
  • a modulator of inflammatory cytokines
  • an inhibitor of the nuclear enzyme poly(adenosine diphosphate-ribose [ADP]) polymerase [PARP], which plays a significant role in DNA repair, maintenance of genomic stability, and cellular response to injury including inflammation and apoptosis (cell death).
